RCF HDL 50-A QUENCHES THE THIRST AT QUEBEC BEER FESTIVAL

Festival des Bières du Monde de Saguenay is an annual beer festival that takes place in Quebec, Canada. Now celebrating its 11th year, Sound Distribution (2018), RCF’s territorial distributor, supported the event with a major RCF line array for the first time.

The event itself takes place on the Grand Stage at Chicoutimi, an outdoor gated amphitheatre-style venue situated in the picturesque harbour area, with between 8,000-12,000 people attending.

Organised by Hakim Productions, the three-day festival also saw appearances by Creedence Clearwater Revisited, FloRida and NOFX, each of whom headlined over the three nights. They were supported respectively by Irvin Blais. DJ Shortcut and Vulgaires Machins. Providing full technical coverage, including an advanced RCF HDL 50-A line array, was GTM Sound, Lighting, Video. Said Sound Distribution (2018)’s Frank Teoli, who co-designed the system with GTM technicians, “All the artists requested a large sized line-array and the RCF system fully met the requirements. The HDL 50-A was used for the main stage for the first time, and it performed flawlessly.”

The system itself comprised 16 RCF HDL-50-A as the main PA (eight elements per side); eight RCF HDL-50-A outfills (four per side); 16 RCF SUB 9006-AS subwoofers in an end-fire configuration and four RCF HDL-30-A as front fills on the stage floor. Side fill monitoring on stage was provided by four RCF TTL 6-A (two per side) with an RCF SUB 9006-AS subwoofer on each side.

Reviewing the system performance, Teoli said, “The sound was so strong and clear that one’s future generations will still be feeling its impact. All the sound engineers who had the pleasure of operating this system had nothing but good things to say about it.”

As for GTM, who handle the majority of the festivals in the Chicoutimi-Saguenay-area, Frank Teoli said they fully intended deploying an RCF system for the event this year. “They clearly recognised the superiority of the HDL 50-A, not only for its ease of use and practicality but for its flawless sound and unrestricted power.”

“All our technicians and engineers were blown away by the RCF sound system. It is the military equivalent of an aircraft carrier … once deployed and in motion it becomes an unstoppable jaw-dropping force of technological might and precise craftsmanship. Even the untrained ear could clearly notice the range of sound that would have been otherwise unapparent with another system. This was especially important due to the fact that we had such a varied group of artists, all from different musical genres.”

Ensuring that the sound would be fully optimized, RCF Export Sales Manager, Luca Agazzi, sent a team of technicians headed by sound specialist Emanuele Morlini to Chicoutimi to “unleash the system’s full power and construct the perfect sound profile” as Frank Teoli so eloquently put it.

Summarising the event, he concluded, “The HDL 50-A was a huge success. We were all amazed by its ease of installation. The computer programme that assisted our engineers in creating the perfect angles for the line array was both convenient and straightforward.”
